I just wanted to chat for a bit about decorating for the holidays! When do you start decorating for Christmas? When is too early? For me, this has changed as I am in a different place in my life for the holidays this year. I usually wait until Thanksgiving night to decorate for Christmas, but this year as I am pregnant, I decorated early, and I didn't use all of my decorations so that I could have an easy clean up before baby comes on NYE!
I am curious, when do you decorate? Do you have a certain theme or color that you like to use? Do you feel like you have to put it ALL up? How about the outside of your home? When you decorate your Christmas tree, do you use nostalgic or vintage ornaments, or do you like to have them all the same color story, and theme?
Holiday decorating can be so fun, but it can also be very stressful. Especially with how much effort and money goes into it.
I am not sure if I am just extra cautious about my resources this year because we have a baby on the way or what, but I am ALL about setting boundaries on my resources and how I spend them.
With that being said, I have spent a lot of time considering how I could still enjoy the holidays and decorating, but without spending too much money and too much time doing so. It is already stressful enough spending money on gifts, much less decorations.
Now, as I have mentioned in previous holiday posts, if it brings you joy to spend the money or time decorating, then by all means, go for it! Some like to change their shower curtains and soap dispensers, if you are like me, I just don't priortize doing those things with my time, or money. Neither is right or wrong!
This year, to reserve my resources, I am going to make a point to not buy Christmas decor that I either already have, or do not need. Instead of buy and putting up Christmas lights on our house, we are going to do the grinch blow up with one strand of lights that he is pulling off the roof. We love this low maintenance and budget friendly idea! I went through my Christmas boxes from the attic and intentionally picked out things that brought joy, and that would be low maintenance and easy to put away.
Also, having ADHD, I am easily over stimulated... and with all this baby stuff, information plus toys and swings, etc.... I am especially feeling overwhelmed.
I am learning that it is so important to evaluate how you feel and what season you are in your life, and taking the holidays in a dose that is appropriate for the season you're in. I feel like we put so much pressure on ourselves to get it all out, and all done... inside and out.
If you can't tell from my recent blogs, I am ALL about simplifying this year, creating boundaries for the holidays (in all ways), and learning how to find joy in the most simple ways. I have noticed this has been so helpful for my mental health.
We want to know your thoughts! Share with us what you have prioritized, or eliminated to cut down on stress. Let us know if you have any suggestions or if your enjoy decorating, down to the bathrooms, how you do it either on a budget, or without getting overwhelmed.
Happy Decorating, friends!
