Ensure the candle is in a well-ventilated area and on a flat, stable surface as it burns. Always extinguish all candles before leaving a room. Most of our candles are self-trimming wicks; however, if you find your wick burning too tall, you can always trim the wick for better results.

#1- ALWAYS REACH A FULL MELTING POOL- The first time you burn your candle, let the wax melt all the way to the edge of the vessel. This is VERY IMPORTANT and will usually take 2-4 hours. If you do not let the wax melt to the edges, you will always have wax residue on the sides of your vessel. We call this "tunneling," and you don't get to enjoy all your beautiful wax!

 

#2-TRIM YOUR WICK- Each time you re-light your candle, trim the wick to 1/4 inch long. Yes, that seems very short but trust us, it will light. We recommend using a wick trimmer to cut your wick and dispose of the trimmings. Why 1/4 inch long? If your wick is any longer, the flame may be too big, and it will not be stable. You want a nice intense burn without letting your flame get out of control.

 

#3- KNOW WHEN TO STOP- After the first burn, only burn your candle for about 3-4 hours at a time. Don't let your candle burn for more than 4 hours at a time. If you let it burn for more than 4 hours, the wick will begin to "mushroom." This can cause the wick to become unstable, the flame to get too large, and your candle to smoke.

 

#4- KEEP AWAY FROM DRAFTS- Keep your candle away from drafts and flammable materials. This one seems obvious, but drafts and movement around your candle can cause black soot to build up on the inside of your vessel. No one likes this. So make sure you trim your wick to 1/4 an inch, and you keep your candle away from drafts.

 

#5- REUSE YOUR CANDLE VESSEL- Your candle is finished when there are only 1/2-1/4 inches of wax left at the bottom of your vessel. If you continue to burn your candle, your vessel will get very hot and unsafe. Clean out your jar and reuse your vessel as a planter, whiskey tumbler, or whatever you'd like!
